History:
Decades ago, magic crashed into the world like tsunami and through everything into a magical apocalyptic chaos, clashing with and dismantling technology and bringing back spells and creatures and other things from legends and fairytales. Things have settled a little since then. Magic still comes in waves, alternating with periods of no magic where technology reigns, and the magic waves where spells and enchantments abound but technology fails to work.
This is the world that Aurelia, previously known as Julie, was born into. Julie grew up as a street kid until her path crossed with Kate Daniels. Kate took her in and raised the teen as her own. At the time, Kate's near-omnipotent immortal wizard father was fairly intent on killing Kate, and Julie eventually joined in the battle against him. They won, and somehow in the process, Julie has actually gotten to know the now-imprisoned immortal wizard as her grandfather.
It's been eight years since that final battle, and Julie left her home in Atlanta to travel with her grandmother (great aunt, technically, sort of, but that's details). Eventually said grandmother founded the kingdom of New Shinar on the west coast, and Julie has earned her place by her grandmother's side as New Shinar's princess. She's also quite close to her "Uncle" even if that's also intensely complicated. Her adoptive father is the former Beast Lord of Atlanta, and her little brother is a terrifyingly talented magic user who is also a werelion.
Now back in Atlanta for the first time, Julie -- now going by Aurelia -- is a new woman. Literally. An encounter with Moloch, the avatar of the child-eater god, has left her physically altered. She looks, smells, sounds, is a different woman physically than she was before. No one should recognize her. Should. You know how that goes.
Personality:
Currently, everything about Aurelia is focused on one thing. She's carrying a huge secret and her adoptive mother's life depends on this secret being kept and an ongoing battle being won. That said, despite the seriousness of her quest and her attempt to hold herself aloof and separate from the world around her, Aurelia cares. She can't stand to see innocent people hurt, especially children. Though she is determined to do whatever she can for her quest, she tries to minimize any hurt she may cause -- except to those who clearly deserve it.
Despite her entire appearance changing, despite not looking like the woman she used to be, Aurelia still loves and will do anything she can to protect her family and friends. She's close to her younger brother and values the guidance of her grandmother and uncle, and even that of her extremely-dangerous-world-domination-plotting grandfather. She also still has it's complicated feelings for her teenage crush who is an infuriatingly attractive werewolf. Life is complicated.
Aurelia is stubborn and can be deliberately difficult. She's clever and quick to banter and decent at diplomacy, when she puts a little effort into it. She's also a walking disaster sometimes, but she manages.
Abilities:
Aurelia can wield blood magic -- including blood armor, blood blades, and blood seals. As a sensate, she can also see the color signatures of different sorts of magic. She has a number of power words as well and other various tricks and spells that her grandmother and grandfather have taught her. Beyond that, she's good in a fight. Her preferred weapon is a spear, but she can also hurt you with a sword.
She's good with horses; her own horse, Tulip, is surprisingly carnivorous for an equine, but hey why not. Aurelia also has a golden eagle friend named Turgan, whose eyes and ears she can observe things through.
